Hello everyone!

One of the Head Admins of Retro Dev Wiki here.

Me and everyone from the Wiki staff team are here to proudly announce that we are collaborating with JoshAmour and the rest of the Retro Dev Staff Team to bring you an ad-free wiki experience for you to use when either out of curiousity or researching all things related to Retro Dev.

We had heard your feedback and opinions within the community in regards to Fandom itself and how it affects your reading experience, and we hope this can be useful for everyone within the community who just want a clean reading experience when browsing through Retro Dev Wiki itself.

What exactly is this version?

Now, for transparency reasons. We do wanna knowledge what this version actually IS and what it ISN'T.

The retrodevinfo.com version (or as we like to call it, the website version.) is a Proxy Frontend that MIRRORS everything that's in the Fandom version itself, similar to other Fandom proxy frontends like BreezeWiki and Phantom.

However, unlike those two proxy frontends, that do a pretty awful job at actually formatting wiki articles correctly. This proxy is EXCLUSIVELY for viewing Retro Dev Wiki articles, along with formatting all of the pages that were mirrored correctly.
And in general, it is way faster to view them on here, than it is on those proxy frontends that we mentioned.

The retrodevinfo.com version is NOT a forked version of the Fandom wiki site NOR a replacement.
This version should be taken as an alternative for those who do NOT wanna use Fandom in general.

Questions and Answers

Q: Why can't I edit on here? Why do I have to edit a wiki article using a Fandom account?
A: Currently, we want to test out the waters first and how it performs in general, before fully committing to it.
If it goes well, and there is an demand for it. We will try to make some kind of a system that would also sync up within the Fandom version as well.

That said, we can not confirm if this will end up happening in the future. So we recommend taking it with a grain of salt.

Q: What will happen to the Fandom version of Retro Dev Wiki? Is it getting replaced?
A: Nothing will happen to the Fandom version, especially since we are still relying on it for this frontend proxy. It will also continue being maintained for those who prefer using Fandom instead.

Q: Why use a Fandom proxy frontend system instead of making a forked version that does not require Fandom to be there?
A: There are features that Fandom offers that make it so much easier for us to operate the wiki. Also the S.O.A.P. team from Fandom are actually amazing and helpful team of people, they helped us out multiple times when we got vandalized and we were unable to take action ourselves.

Not to mention that trying to maintain an full on independent wiki site (meaning no wiki farms like Fandom, Mirahaze, wiki.gg and more.) would be painful to try to operate by ourselves alone and pretty expensive for that matter.

And plus, it could cause conflicting and outdated information against the other versions if they were seperated. Also vandalism could be worse if one of the versions of Retro Dev Wiki wasn't maintained or moderated properly.

Q: Wouldn't this get you in trouble with Fandom?
A: Perhaps... but at the same time, Fandom would still get upset if a Fandom wiki site gets mirrored, forked or used in a proxy frontend anyways. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

We hope Fandom won't get upset at us too much, since wiki contributors are still required to have a Fandom account in order to edit wiki articles. But we will have to wait and see.

Q: Are there any exclusive features within this version?
A: Yes! There are a few within the home page of Retro Dev Wiki that are only exclusive to this version, such as... pages that require work or need more contributes, latest news and announcements with retrodevinfo.com, us and even newly made wiki article pages and more.

Q: Why aren't Fandom discussions and comments on here?
A: Because admittedly, we feel like it wouldn't make a lot of sense to add it on here anyway. For one thing, you're required to use an Fandom account for those features anyway, making it very difficult to add an Discord integration to it. And the big reason is that... if you already have an Discord account, you're probably already on Retro Dev's Discord server for communication anyway.

Q: Are the Wiki Staff part of the Retro Dev official teams like the Staff Team and the Event Team?
A: No, we are just affiliated and working with the Staff Team and the Event Team for anything they require us to do. Such as removing unannounced and unofficial leaks from the wiki. That said, if you have any issues within RetroStudio or with Retro Dev Discord, we are NOT able to help you with those and can only redirect you to official ways to get in contact with the Retro Dev Staff Team.

Q: Is the wiki STILL independent that is not ran by the Retro Dev official teams?
A: Yes, everything OUTSIDE of retrodevinfo.com and other official services within Retro Dev that is Retro Dev Wiki related is from our end. What we do does NOT represent the Retro Dev brand nor it's official teams and services.

Q: Have you listened to other feedback and thoughts in regards to Retro Dev Wiki itself?
A: Yes, we did heard about your feedback and thoughts in regards to the quality control of wiki articles. And while I can't really say when we will finally take action about this. It is something that we are interested in doing something about it.

Q: Am I required to use an Discord account to view wiki articles on here?
A: No, you are not required to use an Discord accounts to read Retro Dev Wiki articles on here.

Q: Any Discord account related features?
A: Besides the other retrodevinfo.com features outside of the wiki. There are currently none, however we are working on implementing a Discord version of the Fandom checklist feature. Something that Josh himself made a poll about.

Q: What information am I sharing when connecting my Discord account into this?
A: According to the Privacy policy of retrodevinfo.com: Your Discord user ID, username, display name and avatar are collected in order to embed it on the website itself. Along with basic session information to keep you signed in securely and your roles in the Retro Dev Discord server, to decide which pages and tools you can use.
