About:

House of the Dead is a remake of the 1996 light gun shooter of the same name and follows the same plot. it follows 4 players who infiltrate the Curien Mansion and attempt to stop geneticist Dr. Curien after his research into bridging the gap between life and death causes him to fall into insanity and release an army of undead experiments upon the mansion grounds. The game is inspired by various zombie story games such as Videostar7's Zombie Tower and The Epidemic.

Gameplay:

The gameplay is vastly different from its on-rails source, playing more like zombie story games on Roblox instead, the game is split into 4 chapters, each one taking the players further into Curien Mansion. Various breakable objects litter each chapter, providing both healing items and score bonuses when shot, with some opening up alternate routes. A necessary mechanic due to the lack of natural health regeneration other games of the same genre usually have. Scientists will spawn at certain points, providing better healing and a score bonus when rescued.

In the UK, renowned geneticist, Dr. Curien, obsesses over discovering the key to eternal life and curing mortality, funded and staffed by a mysterious organisation inside a research facility built underneath his residence, the Curien Mansion. Over several months Curien's mental state slowly deteriorates until on the 18th of December in 1998, Curien snaps and in a fit of hysteria and delusion releases an army of hostile genetically engineered creatures to slaughter his research team. A government agency called the AMS which had been investigating a series of disappearances connected to the Curien Mansion receives a distressing call from a researcher named Sophie and sends in a team of four agents to rescue her and any researchers found and put an end to the outbreak.

The agents arrive two days later to find the mansion completely infested by the undead, finding a fatally wounded researcher who tells them that the other researchers are still inside and to save them.

Trivia

House of the Dead could be considered the successor to Mansion of the Dead, the cancelled Halloween 2023 event for Videostar7's Zombie Tower which is based on the same source material.

The tool tips for the Uzi and Spas-12 reference voice lines from The House of the Dead 4 and 3 respectively.

Despite appearing to be zombies initially, the enemies of House of the Dead don't fit the traditional description of a zombie. Rather than being created by the infection of an individual via a disease, they are artificial organisms created via genetic engineering, a more fitting term in this case would be creatures or clones.
