	―Game description

Description

Zombie Survival 2009 is, as the game description provides, a PvE round-based FPS, where players are tasked with the need to fight off different zombies on different maps and several different modes. Their kills can rack up, and they can be used to buy weapons and useful items in the lobby shop. It was created on August 12, 2024, by jimmyroblox12356. jimmy confirmed on his Roblox group Zombie-Killaz that the last update was released on January 18, 2026.

Gameplay

In the game, players spawn in a lobby with three areas. One with a place for voting maps/modes, the game logo, and controls. To your left is a shop where you can buy weapons and tools. Behind you is a soccer field with advertisements available for other games if they wish to be advertised there. Music can be muted and players can go AFK in the lobby. The intermission is 60 seconds long, where players can vote on what map they want to play. There is a spectate tool that players in the lobby can use to see the action unfold in the wasteland.

Modes

Holdout

Players are stuck on one map for six minutes and must fight off increasing amounts of zombies. New waves of zombies are signaled by a quick flash of green on the screen that the spawners have refreshed, followed by a lightning bolt. At the end, a helicopter will rescue everyone that makes it to the vehicle. Anyone who is left behind dies.

Endless Tour

This mode works similar to the endless gameplay that COD: Zombies has. The game goes in waves that increasingly get more difficult, and when a new wave begins all dead players join back in. Endless Tour does not always take place on one map and can switch between maps. At the end of each wave, there is a 30-second countdown to flee to a bus and survive to fight another wave. Each wave lasts two minutes.

Tank(non-mode)

At a random point, a tank will spawn which will stop any new zombies from spawning and the timer will pause. This can happen with any mode and any map. Players must kill a beefy tank zombie which, if underestimated, can kill full-health players in two hits. Keep your distance and keep firing at it, preferably the head.

Versus

This mode works almost identically to Holdout; however, players are split into two teams. One team has to survive while the other has to kill the survivors as zombies. There is also a separate game by the same owner set exclusively for Versus rounds.

Halloween's Traitor (halloween exclusive)

Players are put on a map and given a 60-second intermission to prepare for the fallen survivor. Once this intermission ends, this boss spawns and players have 5 minutes to kill it. The fallen survivor is unlike the tank, as it can use an M16, M3 or fire axe, much like a player can. It can also summon a horde every minute. Stay in cover, and coordinate with your teammates to defeat it.

Maps

Skyscraper

You and the other players are inside an eleven-story office building, of which only the top four floors and the rooftop are accessible. There is also a smaller building nearby, but there is no way to access it. Spawners are scattered across the floors and can be in elevators, some rooms, and vents. With a high enough render distance, you can see the other maps, possibly hinting at a small amount of lore as to where the survivors went. Glass can be shattered(which there will be much of). There are six zombie spawners, two each on the eighth and ninth floor and one for the tenth and eleventh floors. Utilize the rooftop's open space to your advantage.

Home

You and other players are inside a two-story home with rooftop access via two different stairs, surrounded by a yard walled off by fencing. This makes the area easily defendable where barbed wire can be placed on stairways and/or if the players stay on the rooftop, the chances of survival increase. There are six zombie spawners around the walls.

Seaside

Players are placed in a walled-off marina consisting of several small buildings, several connecting docks and a beach road. Zombies spawn near holes in the wall and in the ocean, which can also kill players via drowning if they stay underwater too long. It is not known exactly how long a player must stay underwater for them to drown. The top of the damaged store is a recommended area to stay in.

Cave

Players are placed into a system of cave tunnels that are two stories tall that connect to each other and in the center is a large rock surrounded by lava and only connected to the tunnels via planks on the second floor. Walking into the lava even for just a short amount of time can kill you, so keep your distance. The complexity of the map can make it difficult to explore and get to areas. There are two zombie spawners upstairs, and eight downstairs, totaling ten.

Fjord

Fjord was made by user tanapoAU. Players spawn in a walled-off encampment. It's winter, and there are two buildings. One is a house with a TV cabinet, and the other has a table, desktop, vending machine, and a bookshelf on the smaller second floor, and a helicopter pad covered in snow. There is an inaccessible watchtower in one corner of the map. There are six zombie spawners, one for each of the side walls and two for the front and back walls.

Zoo

The Zoo, officially titled "Ledger Zoo", is a large and open map with not much actual content. There are ten zombie spawners spread around the zoo walls. There are four groups of seating, a center pen with an inaccessible door and an Angry Gorilla that attacks anything that enters the pen, the Gorilla's old encasement, an ice cream shop, and a raised platform.

Lab

WORK IN PROGRESS

Prison

Prison was made by user AKindaChillGuy on July 31st, 2025. "Dannis G. State Prison" is what appears to be an abandoned low-security prison somewhere in the American wilderness. Compared to the rest of the maps, the Prison is the most dilapidated looking out of all, as if the facility had been abandoned for years. The area size can be similar to that or larger of Zoo, mostly one-story, and has 14 areas, inaccessible and accessible. Due to many indoor spaces and smaller areas, lower-range weapons are more suitable (see Shop tables), as well as melee weapons and sprint boosting gears.

Lore

Although ZS2009 is a mostly straightforward and action-based game, there are little bits of lore that mostly consist of environmental storytelling that add to what may have happened at each map before and during the outbreak. There is some actual lore however:

On the map Seaside, in the second-story building on the second floor there is a desk with an open book and two pages. To summarize: On March 12th, 2009, a local named Martin hears about rumors from a friend that a zombie apocalypse has awoken, with rumors that it wiped out an entire office(Skyscraper?), but he does not believe it. On the second entry on March 16th, Martin regrets his stubborness and decision to stay at the beach, while zombies are breaking in, and quote: "Get out as quickly as possible. Don't make the same mistake I did. They are a relentless force and they will find a way to get to you. Trust me."

Note that these are not solid confirmations by the developer or any associates and purely based off conclusions.

Skyscraper: All or most computers have a screen covered in green binary and a black background, suggesting there was a cyberattack.
Home: There is a helicopter on the rooftop, which might be a sign that the owners were wealthy... or just for the Endless Tour gameplay reasons. There are signs of a struggle in the downstairs living room and dining area, and the upstairs bedsheet looks tattered. Wall debris is found on one side of the building, either an escape method or an attack.
Seaside: Despite structural damage, nobody has been here in a while. In this map we also know that zombies are able to walk underwater. The helicopter crashsite in the center of the beach is still ablaze, which may have been where the players came from. If Endless Tour was chosen, players will escape via a bus. If Holdout was chosen, players escape by a boat at the docks. There is a book on the desk in the second floor somewhere with actual journal entries(see start of the heading).
Cave: There is a railway tunnel on the second floor, with supports and walkways elsewhere. This was likely an old mine. We do not know much else.
Lab: WIP
Fjord: Nobody has been here in a while. The computer and TV both display bright colors, which suggest the power is still on. A hidden generator or early on in the outbreak?
Zoo(Ledger Zoo): None of the original staff or visitors are anywhere to be found but the bus entrance is barricaded by a turned table, suggesting an attack on the zoo. If there were any other animals, the zombies might have eaten them. The animal pen is covered in blood and debris, and probably belonged to the Gorilla. Either it got hungry or was being threatened by zombies, which prompted it to escape to the central animal enclosure.
Prison: Exception in this category. This is KindaChillGuy writing, the same creator of this map, and there is an actual story behind Prison that was thought of during design. The map is rich with environmental storytelling and players are expected to put the pieces together. If people don't feel like that however, I have added the story of the original inhabitants in the talk page.

Trivia

The zombies seem to have pathfinding, which is a rare sight in Retrostudio survival games where usually enemies can easily get stuck at walls. Even then, there is a small chance zombies get stuck.
On the Home map, there is a bus that crashed into the fence gates, assuming the group tried to escape to the house and crashed in the process. The same can be said for the Seaside map, where there is a helicopter crash site on the beach, a burning wreck of metal.
If one zooms out far enough, it can be seen that all maps are in the same area, what appears to be a coastal valley.
The bus that replaces the helicopter as an escape in Endless Tour appears to work like a hot air balloon, using a giant red sphere attached to it.
ZS2009 is the 31st most visited game as of October 2025.
